Using the System menu

Changes to system options are typically made only once. If your system operates as you want it to, there may be no need for any changes. In some cases, however, changes are required to make the system fully compatible with the installation options you have chosen.

Viewing and using the System menu

Unlike the source Settings menus, the System menu only appears on your TV screen.

Turn on your TV and select the correct TV input to view video from your 3∙2∙1 system.

On your remote, press the System button. The System menu appears with "Audio" options selected, showing a list of the audio options that can be changed. Entering the System menu will cause any DVD or VCD to pause.

On your remote, use the arrow buttons on the Navigation pad to move around within the system menu, and press ENTER to select an item. Any item that you select will then be highlighted in yellow within the menu.

At any time, you can press EXIT to leave the menu.

Audio

These options affect the way the system sounds in your home.

SYSTEM OPTIONS	SETTINGS AND DESCRIPTIONS
Bass compensation	Default setting: 0 (Options: -14 to +14) Zero is for standard low-tone performance. - decreases and + increases these low tones.
Treble compensation	Default setting: 0 (options: -14 to +14) Zero is for standard High-Tone performance. - decreases and + increases these high tones.
Audio processing	default setting: automatic (option: user adjustable) Automatic keeps Bose® processing as the standard. User adjustable allows some processing options (movie EQ, range compression, mono decoding) to appear in settings menus.
Input levels: TV analogue or digital CBL∙SAT analogue or digital Aux analogue or digital	Default setting: normal (options: -6, -3, +3, +6) Decreases or increases the volume level setting for the input of a connected component. This minimises abrupt volume changes when you switch from DVD or FM∙AM audio on the Bose media centre to audio from a connected component. Note: to match AM and FM levels, or TV channels, which can vary depending on the station or program, adjusting the volume on your audio component may be preferable.

Video

When using an HDMI® connection, some options in this menu may not be available, or may not be adjustable. This is because HDMI senses your TV capabilities and sets the option automatically.

Widescreen TV	Default setting: Yes (16:9); (option: No 4:3) Widescreen TV aspect ratio 16:9. Full screen TV aspect ratio 4:3.
DVD image	Default setting: modified (Option: original) Modified allows the Bose system to adjust the images on some widescreen DVDs to fill a 4:3 TV screen. This is done by removing the black bars on top and bottom and by cropping the sides of the image. (Many DVD images, even widescreen, will still appear with black bars on top and bottom.) Original tells the Bose system to keep the image in the original format of the DVD. A widescreen DVD image will have black bars on top and bottom. Note: this option is not available unless you have selected "No" in the widescreen TV option (above).
Video connector	Default setting: (Composite + S-Video), (option: component, HDMI) Identifies the type of video connection currently made on the back panel of the media centre. Note: this is not an adjustable setting.
TV video format	Default setting: NTSC (US); (Options: PAL (Europe); (Multistandard)) NTSC is correct for NTSC (US standard) monitors. PAL is correct for PAL (European standard) monitors. (Multistandard) is only for a TV that supports multiple formats (NTSC and PAL).
Video black level	Default setting: normal (Option: extended) Normal is the screen black level generally appropriate for most TVs. Extended darkens the intensity of the black onscreen.
Progressive scan	Default setting: Off (Option: On) Off setting: screen image is displayed as an interlaced signal (480i). On setting: screen image is displayed as a progressive signal (480p). Note: depending on your TV, the difference between these options may be very subtle or dramatic. Select the option that you feel looks best on your TV.

Media centre

SYSTEM OPTIONS	SETTINGS AND DESCRIPTIONS
Display brightness	Default setting: 4 (options: 1 to 4) 4: Media Centre display shows text at its brightest. 1–4: choosing a lower number darkens text on the display.
Display language	Default setting: English (options: Dansk, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Svenska) Onscreen display menus appear in the selected language.
Optical source	Default setting: CBL∙SAT (Options: TV, Aux) The optical connection is assigned to the CBL∙SAT source. TV and Aux assign the optical connection to a different source. Note: an active optical signal will always override the analogue connections of the same source.
Tuner spacing	Default setting: us (option: European) Applies the regional standard for incremental spacing between AM and FM stations.
Bose® Link Room code	Default setting: b (options: C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N or O) Links the 3∙2∙1 system to a unique code so it works with Bose Link as a second room sound source. Note: this feature can only be used with a compatible Lifestyle® system.
Restore settings	Default settings: no (option: yes) No: maintains your established changes in the settings menu. Yes: returns all of your selections in the settings menu to the original factory settings.

DVD Lock

The DVD Lock options allow you to restrict viewing of DVD videos with certain ratings. To activate this feature, you need to set a level of restriction and establish a password in this section.

Lock unrated discs	Settings: Off, On Off: no restriction applies to unrated DVD movies. On: restricts viewing access to unrated titles when password is set.
Lock discs rated above	settings: 1 to 8 Helps prevent viewing discs above the selected number when a password is created.
Manage DVD password	establishes a new four-number code to restrict access to movies with certain ratings.
