Linking Multiple Speakers

If you have two Bose app-compatible Bluetooth speakers, you can link them together to play in party mode or stereo mode.

Before you begin

  • Make sure your phone, tablet, or computer isn't on a call. This can turn off the voice prompts when linking your speakers.
  • By default, the shortcut button is set to link your speakers. If you’ve changed this setting, see Using the Shortcut Button to adjust your shortcut.

Linking is a feature available with the following speakers:

  • SoundLink Max Portable Speaker
  • SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker (2nd Gen)
Note: Stereo mode is only available between two speakers of the same model.

To link your speakers:

  1. Power on both speakers by pressing the power button icon once.
  2. Connect your personal device (smartphone, tablet, or computer) to one of the speakers using Bluetooth.
  3. On the connected speaker, press and release the shortcut button icon
    • The shortcut light will slowly blink white with the Bluetooth tone, followed by the voice prompt "Press the shortcut button on a second Bose Bluetooth speaker".
  4. On the second speaker, press and release the shortcut button icon.
    • The shortcut light will slowly blink white.
  5. When the speakers are linked, you'll hear a voice prompt announcing the mode, and both shortcut lights will turn solid white.
    • Note: It may take a few seconds for the mode announcement to be heard.

What you'll hear:

  • If both speakers are the same model, you'll hear "Stereo mode" followed by "Left" and "Right" for each speaker.
  • If the speakers are different models, you'll hear "Party mode" on both.

To switch between Stereo & Party Mode:

Press and release the shortcut button icon on either speaker.

To unlink your speakers:

On the second speaker, you can either turn it off by pressing and releasing the power button icon, or press and hold the shortcut button icon until you hear the tone.
